|
|
| I
have had a problem with OUtlook since the 10th of December, for awhile
I thought it was my ISP that was having the problem - the issue was
when I opened Outlook and hit Send and Receive, my computer would try
to contact the Pop3 and SMTP, it could find them just wouldn't recieve
a response. But it turns out it wasn't my ISP at all that was faulty,
for some reason on the 10th McVSEscn.exe simply started to prevent any
email programs from sending and recieving (I got so frustrated with
Outlook not recieving I thought I would setup Outlook Express or even
Thunderbird to send and receive email - both resulted in the same
issue). Finally, just yesterday, when I was about to just drop my ISP
to see if it was the cause, my friend came over and looked at what was
running in the background and system matically shut down one process at
a time to find out if there could have been a malicious program that
got by my McAfee scanner, he pinpointed the issue to McVSEscn.exe (one
of the McAfee files). By just ending that one process I could send and
recieve email once again. Restarting the computer ten times and simply
ending McVSEscn.exe from running (by ending the process through task
manager) Outlook, Outlook Express, and Thunderbird could send and
recieve email. I didn't want to have to open Task Manager every time I
started the computer to end this process, so my friend renamed the
McVSEscn.exe to McVSEscnold.exe - this has prevented the program from
running at startup, and funny enough hasn't caused McAfee to crash or
even my computer to have issues, so what I'm wondering is, what caused
McVSEscn.exe to prevent me from sending and recieving email (by
preventing my computer from getting a response from the ISP)? One of
the recent updates from McAfee? I jsut don't know and frankly it does
seem to bother my friend that it was that process in the background
that was causing the issue, so he told me to try to get some help on
this issue with either the McAfee forum or McAfee Tech support. Well I
can't find this issue occuring in the Support documents online, so I
have posted this information here, hoping one of you will be able to
help. So please help |

Toten_Maske,
you are another user who is having a problem with this ... but the bulk
of the postings are going on within specific product Forums.
my suggestion would be to use the Forum's Search facility (top of
the page and select the option) to find an approriate thread and repost
this there.
sorry, i am not a Forum Moderator and am unable to move your posting for you. _________________ Graeme.

I've been fighting this problem for months.
It used to be I could get messages to retrieve again
by shutting down McAfee, but now that seems to
leave MCVSESCN.EXE still running. Killing that
one task seems to let the messages through.
I used windump to log several incidents,
and it seems there's a common pattern: the
messages that lock up MCVSESCN.EXE all
have an illegal NULL byte immediately after the = padding
at the end of a base64-encoded message part.
The logs are online at
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=224900
Can the moderator please forward this note to
the McAfee developers? I'll post this in a 2nd thread
where this problem was discussed, just in case.
Thanks! |
