| If you are using Mozilla,
an open-source browser derived from Netscape, you will need
to configure it manually to connect to ChoiceMail. Assuming
you already have existing email accounts in Mozilla, the best
thing to do is disable those accounts and create a new account
to connect to ChoiceMail.
Until you have configured your email application to connect
to ChoiceMail, ChoiceMail will not begin downloading any of
your email messages. ChoiceMail may have already displayed a
hint telling you this information and if you have seen that
hint, please click OK to close it.
It is important to understand that you should only have one
live account in Mozilla and that account will communicate with
ChoiceMail. ChoiceMail itself must first be configured manually
to access all your existing
POP3 accounts. This procedure is described in the users
guide that accompanies ChoiceMail and can also be downloaded
here (make sure
you have Adobe Acrobat reader on your system to view the users
guide).
If you want to maintain multiple accounts so that you can send
out emails with different Reply addresses, please click
here for information.
Now follow the steps below to configure Mozilla to connect to
ChoiceMail. You may find it convenient to print these pages
out. DigiPortal Software cannot warrant that the process below
will work and you should also consult your Mozilla documentation.
After you have configuring Mozilla, click
here or information on manually exporting your contacts
from Mozilla into ChoiceMail.

 |
Step 1) Select Window from the main window and
choose "Mail & Newsgroups" |
| |
 |
Presumably you already have an email account configured
in Mozilla. If you do not, then you should configure Mozilla with
an email account to connect to your existing ISP before following
the steps here to modify it to work with ChoiceMail. Contact your
ISP if you need help configuring Mozilla to create your first
email account. While DigiPortal is happy to help with configuration
issues relating to ChoiceMail, we cannot support non-ChoiceMail
related issues.
In the steps below, we will be disabling your existing account
(or accounts, if you have more than one) and creating a single
new account to connect to ChoiceMail. Disabling your existing
accounts is more convenient than actually deleting them as it
provides you with an easy way to revert back to them should you
wish to bypass ChoiceMail from time to time.
Step 2) Click on the Edit menu and select "Mail & Newsgroups
Account Settings..." |
| |
 |
| Step 3) You should now see your inbox with your
existing account(s) displayed on the left and information about
the selected account on the right. Obviously, your actual settings
will be different from those shown here. Click on the "Server
Settings" item that is displayed indented under the account
name on the left. |
| |
 |
Step 4) Make a note of the server name, user name
and port. You will need this information later to configure ChoiceMail
itself. Make sure that the Server Type is "POP Mail Server".
ChoiceMail works only with POP servers and cannot be used with
IMAP servers at this time. Also make a note whether the option
"Use secure connections (SSL)" is checked.
Uncheck the options "Check for new mail at startup"
and "Check for new messages every xx minutes". This
is the step that disables your email account and ensures that
Mozilla will not be able to bypass ChoiceMail and connect to your
ISP directly.
If you have more than one email account, you should repeat the
step above for each of those accounts. Remember to jot down the
server name, user name and port for each account.
Finally, click the "Add Account..." button to begin
the creation of a new email account that will connect to ChoiceMail. |
| |
 |
| Step 5) Make sure that "Email account"
is selected then press Next> |
| |
 |
| Step 6) Enter your name and email address in the
appropriate fields. Then press Next> |
| |
 |
| Step 7) Make sure that POP is selected as the type
of incoming server. Enter the single word localhost
as the Incoming Server. This tells Mozilla that it will be retrieving
email from a server on your own machine, i.e. ChoiceMail. |
| |
 |
Step 8) Enter the same username as you specified
when you originally setup ChoiceMail manually. Click
here to see information about how to configure your ChoiceMail
settings. The actual name doesn't matter but it is critical that
the name you specify here matches the name in the "Logging
into ChoiceMail" field.
When you're done, press Next> |
| |
 |
Step 9) You can use any name you wish here - either
accept whatever was in there before (typically it will be your
email address) or you can replace it with something more meaningful.
We recommend that you use a name that lets you know that the account
is for use with ChoiceMail.
Press Next> |
| |
 |
Step 10) You now get to review your settings. If
you need to change anything, just go back to previous dialogs
as needed.
Note the value for the Outgoing Server Name (SMTP). If you didn't
do so when you first configured ChoiceMail, you will need to specify
that server in ChoiceMail.
Press Finish to exit this wizard. We still need to modify your
outgoing server name in Mozilla so we're not quite done yet. |
| |
 |
| Step 11) Click on Edit | Mail & Newsgroup Account
Settings again (see Step 2) to open the settings dialog again. |
| |
 |
| Step 12) Click the Advanced... button |
| |
 |
| Step 13) Click the Add... button to add the new
server |
| |
 |
Step 14) Set the Server Name to the single word
localhost. The port should normally be 25. This enables ChoiceMail
to capture the email addresses of people to whom you are sending
messages and add them to your whitelist automatically.
Be aware however that some anti-virus programs take over this
port for themselves in which case ChoiceMail requires you to use
a different port number (usually 30). To see what the correct
value should be for this port, open ChoiceMail, click on Options
| Configuration in the main menu. When the dialog box pops up,
click on the Advanced tab to see the port settings being used
by ChoiceMail. Then, if necessary, change the value of the Port
in Mozilla to match the value displayed in the Outgoing Mail Server
entry in ChoiceMail (picture).
Finally, make sure that the "Use name and password"
option is unchecked and that the option "Use secure connection
(SSL) is set to "Never".
Click OK on this dialog to accept your changes and then click
OK on all the previous dialogs to return to Mozilla. |
| |
Step 15) You have now completed the steps to configure
Mozilla to connect to ChoiceMail. Make sure that ChoiceMail is
running and then try checking your email from Mozilla. If you
are not successful, please review the steps above carefully to
correct any mistakes.
