The updater did not patch ChoiceMail

The ChoiceMail updater works by first looking for your existing retail ChoiceMail.exe application and once it has verified that this file exists, it can go ahead and update it to the latest version. The updater only updates ChoiceMail version 1.225 or greater to the latest version. If you have a retail version of ChoiceMail older than 1.225, please contact us and include your order number.

On some older operating systems, it is possible that the application was installed using the old DOS 8.3 style naming conventions. In this case, the application is called Choice~1.exe rather than ChoiceMail.exe. In such cases, the updater sometimes does not recognize this filename and assumes that ChoiceMail is not installed on your system. The updater will tell you that it could not find ChoiceMail, even if you have put the updater directly into the ChoiceMail folder.

Workaround:

  1. First verify that your application is indeed called Choice~1.exe rather than ChoiceMail.exe. If file extensions are disabled, you may only see Choice~1 as the filename.
  2. Make sure ChoiceMail is shut down.
  3. Rename the file from Choice~1.exe to ChoiceMail.exe. If file extensions are disabled (which is often the default), just rename Choice~1 to ChoiceMail. Do NOT add the .exe extension in this case.
  4. Run the updater - it should now find ChoiceMail.exe and update it.
  5. Rename the new ChoiceMail.exe back to Choice~1.exe (again leaving out the .exe if file extensions are disabled).
  6. Run ChoiceMail - the titlebar should now display the latest version.
