DigiPortal Upgrades ChoiceMail Spam-Blocking Solution To Simplify Handling of Newsletters, Other Trusted Bulk Mail
ORLANDO, FL-July 28th, 2004- DigiPortal Software Inc., has enhanced its ChoiceMail One anti-spam solution to support temporary email addresses designed to conceal users’ real email addresses when dealing with online retailers, e-newsletters and other trusted bulk mailers. The new virtual email address features in ChoiceMail One Version 2.52 eliminate the need for users to maintain multiple email addresses for privacy purposes while simultaneously ensuring that order confirmations and other wanted mail from legitimate bulk senders will reach the user’s inbox.
The new edition enables users to create and edit virtual email addresses within the program’s interface. These temporary addresses can then be given to vendors, newsletter publishers and other bulk emailers without revealing the user’s real email address. The program automatically approves mail sent to any virtual email address without the usual challenge presented to unknown senders. If a virtual address finds its way to a spammer, the ChoiceMail user can simply throw it away and create a new one.
These new features complement ChoiceMail’s challenge/response system, which allows only approved email to enter the user’s inbox, and other spam-blocking techniques that enable ChoiceMail to eliminate 100% of unwanted email while guaranteeing that no legitimate messages are lost.
“Many email users try to keep spam away from their ‘real’ address by maintaining separate email addresses just to give to online entities. This forces users to set up extra email accounts they don’t really need and sort through piles of junk mail in those accounts to find the few messages they want,” said Dr. David Jameson, CTO and founder of DigiPortal. “With ChoiceMail’s support of virtual email addresses, all of that extra effort is no longer necessary.”
ChoiceMail One automatically approves messages from senders on the user’s “whitelist” and has built-in mechanisms to block obvious spam. Senders receive an automatic message asking them to verify their identity, allowing users to decide which correspondents they trust and add them to their whitelists to ensure that future emails from those senders will be accepted. This methodology prevents users from being locked into a full challenge/response system, which is unwieldy, or one based on rules or Bayesian Theory filters, which can be circumvented by spammers.
